As next generation sequencing, whole exome sequencing, and other genetic tests become cheaper and more prevalent, pathologists will likely incorporate genetic testing into routine autopsies. Such testing has great promise for helping diagnose and treat living and future family members, but also raises questions about whether current consenting practices for autopsy are adequate.
